![]() FM Electric Piano Collection For KontaktKaranyi's Vapor Keys features Yamaha DX7, TX81z & Arturia Micro Freak 21/06/19
Karanyi has released a new Kontakt electric piano collection. Vapor Keys is described as a collection of great sounding FM Electric Piano sample library + an inspiring collection of dreamlike keyboard instruments for Kontakt. A spokesperson told us, 'It can sound sweet and naive, bright, bold, harsh, trashy, lush and sexy, spacy or even dark and gloomy.' Here's more details in Karanyi's own words...
Vapor Keys includes 3 deep-sampled classic and modern FM, algorithmic and wavetable synth sources in 1 pack. It is a collection of custom Electric Pianos mixed with various FM, Wavetable and Algorithmic synthesizer sounds and designed to create gorgeous and bold modern neo-90s sounds. The collection is inspired by classic movies and artists like Luxury Elite, Macintosh Plus or Hong Kong Express. The collection is divided into two parts: Electric Pianos and Vapor Keys:
Electric Pianos are dry, multi velocity sampled instruments with classic EP presets from vintage FM gear with 2 effects / patch: a detuned chorus and a phaser.
With this selection you get access to great authentic FM Electric Pianos from the 80s and 90s. All samples are recorded key-to-key in 24 bit 48kHz. We captured these sounds with analog gear and by applying the minimum software post-production process to keep these patches rich and fresh.
Vapor Keys are heavily sound-designed keyboard instruments with dry and wet signals mixed together from various FM pianos, other synth sources and reverb gears. These patches are great for chords, arps and shorter soundscapes. We captured authentic, classic instruments algorithmic and fm (Yamaha DX7 and TX81z) and modern wavetable (Arturia MicroFreak) synthesizers along with various Eventide reverb units and tape machines to create these extraordinary presets.

Introduction
This page details the procedure for restoring the original factory voice and performance data in a Yamaha DX7s sythesizer, using the original factory supplied data ROM cartridge. You may have to carry out this process if you've overwritten the original data, or lost them (e.g. as a result of replacing the battery). Details on battery replacement are available on my Yamaha DX7s battery replacement page.
If you don't have a DX7s factory ROM cartridge you can still recover the factory voices by downloading the patches from a reputable site and installing them via MIDI, using a patch editor / librarian application on a PC or Mac. Sources of patches and editor / librarians are available at the world famous 'Dave Benson's DX7 Page' here:
Also, if you have access to a Yamaha TX802 FM tone generator, you could use the TX802 as a voice data source (though not performance data). Voice data can also be copied from the Yamaha DXII / DX7IIFD ROM cartridge. However, the order and location of voices in this cartridge don't match the DX7s ROM cartridge and you may have to do some additional work, depending on how you want to use the voices and performances. My thanks to Brett Kaplan for pointing this out to me.
For more information on the factory original internal voice and performance data and factory supplied data ROM cartridge voice and performance data, plus the contents of the data ROM cartridge itself and TX802 compatibility, please refer to my Yamaha DX7s factory internal voices and ROM cartridge voices page.
